HAGERSTOWN — Henry Ramos hit a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to give Greenville the lead for good in the Drive’s 6-4 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Monday at Municipal Stadium.
Ramos’ shot to right-center off Suns reliever Shane McCatty (1-3) highlighted a four-run inning, putting the Drive in front, 4-1.
The Suns got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Adrian Sanchez to make it 4-2.
After the Drive took a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh, the Suns made it a one-run game in the bottom half. Brett Newsome singled, Wade Moore doubled and both scored on Michael Taylor’s two-run single to right.
But the Suns were held scoreless the rest of the way, while Greenville added an insurance in the ninth on Drew Hedman’s solo homer to right off Hagerstown’s Christopher Manno.
The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the first as Sanchez doubled, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by David Freitas.
Sanchez and Wade Moore each finished with two of Hagerstown’s eight hits.
Drive starter Keith Couch (4-3) went six innings for the win, allowing two runs, four hits and a walk while striking out seven.
Suns starter Robbie Ray went four innings. He allowed no runs, one hit and three walks and had seven strikeouts.
