Portion of King Street to be closed during demolition of former hospital

July 25, 2011

As part of the demolition of the former hospital complex near the intersection of Antietam Street and Cannon Avenue, portions of the existing buildings along King Street must be removed.

The contractor, Brandenburg Industrial Service Co., plans to demolish the structures over a three-day period beginning Monday, Aug. 1. Consequently, beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, King Street will be closed to all traffic between Antietam and Baltimore streets. A detour plan will be implemented to direct motorists around the work area via other city streets.

Motorists approaching the closure should expect to encounter barricades, detour signs and other traffic-control devices. The contractor anticipates that the street will be reopened to traffic by 6 p.m. Monday evening. The same closure will be repeated Tuesday, Aug. 2, and Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through King Street while the closures are in effect.
