Luther Elwood Grove Jr., 82, of 503 Cherry Circle, Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, Pa. and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pa.
He was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Hagerstown, to Luther and Katie (Eshleman) Grove.
He is the brother of Martha Miller, John Grove, Arthur Grove, Erma Grove, Clarence Grove, Amanda Dick and Leona Musselman.
He married Leona Catharine Parmer of Greencastle, Pa., on Sept. 1, 1951.
Luther farmed his birthplace from 1950 to 1967, then worked as a plumber until his retirement in 1994.
He and Leona moved to Messiah Retirement Village in 1999. He remained active in the church and community throughout his life. He will be remembered for his congeniality, sense of humor and generosity. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Luther is survived by his wife, Leona; daughters, Karen Grove and her husband, Jay Ach, and Jolene Ness and her husband, Randy; grandchildren, Jaron, Katie (and her husband, Josh Abro) and Natalie; and sisters, Amanda Dick and Leona Musselman.
A memorial service will be held at Messiah Village Church of Mechanicsburg on Wednesday, July 27, at 2:30 p.m. with a visitation hour beginning at 1:30 p.m. He will be buried at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Christian Retreat Center, 369 CRC Drive, East Waterford, PA 17021; or to Messiah Village Endowment Fund, 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
