Martinsburg man charged with wanton endangerment

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man was charged with 11 counts of wanton endangerment Sunday after shots were fired outside a home in the 200 block of North Maple Avenue, Martinsburg Police said.

Sharnjeet Amar Singh, aka Sarge, 22, of 216 1/2 N. Maple Ave., Apartment 2, faced a variety of charges and was being held at the Eastern Regional Jail on Sunday morning in lieu of $634 cash bond, authorities said.

Police responded to the 200 block of North Maple Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday for a call of shots fired, according to a Martinsburg Police news release.

An investigation revealed the suspect was involved in a discussion or argument with an area resident and, later, allegedly fired 11 rounds from a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol outside the home, police said. The suspect was seen shooting the pistol in the air, police said.

Police collected 11 spent .40-caliber casings and one live .40-caliber round, police said.

Singh was detained in an alley to the side of the residence for swearing, police said.

He was charged with 11 counts of wanton endangerment, swearing, public intoxication and disorderly conduct, according to the jail.

Police obtained a search warrant for Singh’s home, where they found a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol, a loaded .20-gauge pump shotgun and assorted ammunition, police said.
