Drive's power puts it in gear to topple Suns

July 23, 2011

HAGERSTOWN — Brandon Jacobs and Sean Coyle drove in three runs each on Saturday to lead Greenville to an 8-4 sun-baked victory over the Hagerstown Suns.

Jacobs and Coyle each hit two-run home runs as the Drive scored eight unanswered runs to knock off Hagerstown (55-43, 15-13).

Saturday’s game was played in the 100-degree conditions after being forced to be moved to the afternoon. A light standard collapsed at Municipal Stadium during Friday’s storm.

The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the first as Blake Kelso led off with a single against Greenville starter Kyle Stroup and scored on Adrian Sanchez’s double.

Hagerstown maintained the 1-0 lead until Greenville got to starter Chris McKenzie for two runs in the fifth on consecutive RBI doubles by David Renfroe and Wilfred Pichardo.

Jacobs hit his home run off Sam Brown in the sixth and Coyle added his in the ninth off Tyler Hanks.

The Suns scored three runs in the ninth on Jason Martinson’s three-run homer.

Kelso led the Suns with three hits, while Coyle finished with three for the Drive.
