One eastbound lane of West Antietam Street between South Burhans Boulevard (U.S. 11) and Walnut Street was closed Thursday while handicap access ramps were added to the sidewalk.

The sidewalk on the south side of the block was also closed.

Al Ball of Concrete Central said the work should be finished, and the lane and sidewalk should reopen by Friday afternoon.

Concrete Central has been contracted by the City of Hagerstown to add handicap access ramps to sidewalks in various parts of the city throughout the summer, according to Mary King, communications manager for the City of Hagerstown.

Before working on West Antietam Street crews from Concrete Central added ramps at 19 locations on Hamilton Boulevard, Ball said.

Henson and Son has also worked on similar ramps as part of other work it has been doing for the city this summer, King said.

Ramps were added to the sidewalks at the intersection of East Baltimore Street and South Potomac Street and the intersection of East Baltimore Street and South Locust Street at the end of June by Henson and Son.
