Lee in contention at Women's Amateur

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Smithsburg High School graduate Haeun Lee finished the qualifying round of the 90th Maryland Womens Amateur on Monday with a 6-over-par 78 for a sixth-place tie and a spot in the championship flight of match play today.

Lee, who plays out of Beaver Creek and will be a junior at Longwood (Va.) University, will meet 14-year-old Jordan McKelvin of Hayfields Country Club in the quarterfinals of match play today at Lake Presidential Golf Club at 8:50 a.m.

North Hagerstown graduate Becky Gossard had an 85 in the qualifying round and will compete in Flight 3. Gossard, playing out of Black Rock, will go against Chelsea Harris of Hobbit’s Glen Golf Club today at 10 a.m.

Snyder makes Pa. Open
CAMP HILL, Pa. — Matthew Snyder of Chambersburg, Pa., was the only golfer among a host of area players that qualified for the Pennsylvania Open.

Snyder shot a 2-over 74 at West Shore Country Club to qualify for the Open, which will be played Aug. 8-10 at Moselem Springs Golf Club.
Others missing the cut included Kyle Kegerreis (80), Nick Tornetta (80), Calvin Mentzer (81), Ryan Cocagna (82) and Scott Barrows (88), all of Chambersburg; Chad Bricker (80) and Jason Rauth (87) of Waynesboro; Mark Yost (81) of Fayetteville and Randy Finn (79) of Hagerstown.

Cline commits To Allegany
Tyson Cline, a 2011 graduate of Williamsport High School, committed to play baseball this coming fall at Allegany College of Maryland. Cline was a first team All-County and All-MVAL outfielder as a senior, hitting .451 with six home runs.

Openings in Adenhart camp
Spots are still available for the first Nick Adenhart Baseball Camp at Williamsport High School on July 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  
The camp is open to kids ages 7 to 12. The cost for the camp is $30. Bobby Wilson, catcher for the Los Angeles Angels and minor league teammate of Adenhart, will be the guest speaker. In addition, there will be a silent auction on items that include a bat autographed by Chase Utley, a baseball signed by Jered Weaver and items from the Hagerstown Suns.
