HHS class of 1953 plans class picnic

The reunion committee for the Hagerstown High School class of 1953 has planned a class picnic for Saturday, Aug. 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center on Sharpsburg Pike, seven miles south of the Interstate 70 exit.

Cynthia officiated at the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446 monthly awards presentation. The chapter had a net loss of 38 pounds in June.

Jackie was the thinner winner of the month and George was runner-up.  

Ernie was voted June’s shining star. The week’s thinner winner was Barinda, followed by Mary.

The chapter meets Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 8:45 to 9:20 a.m.

Haven Lutheran Church plans vacation Bible school

Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown, invites those ages 3 years to fifth grade to its vacation Bible school titled “Pandamania, Where God Is Wild About You!”

It begins Monday, July 25, and runs through Friday, July 29, beginning at 5:45 p.m. each day with a light supper, followed by games, crafts, Bible adventures and music.

Food drive under way

Allegany Dental Care will conduct a food drive through Monday, Aug. 1.

Items will be given to Food Resources Inc. to help restock the food pantry’s shelves.  

Allegany Dental will accept donations of nonperishable food items at its three locations.

  • 19418 Leitersburg Pike (across from the new post office and Lyles Center)
  • 22109 Jefferson Blvd. (near the Food Lion in Smithsburg)
  • 7719 Virginia Ave. (near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard)

The offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
