HAGERSTOWN — Salem Avenue (Md. 58) is closed to through traffic between Burhans Boulevard (U.S. 11) and West Side Avenue.

The street has been closed since Monday, July 11, so crews from David H. Martin Excavating, Inc. can prepare for a sanitary sewer inspection and pavement repair, according to the City of Hagerstown.

The crews begin work on the road at 7 each morning. When the work day is over, usually around 5 p.m., they reopen Salem Avenue to one lane for westbound traffic.

A detour has been set up for eastbound traffic to take West Side Avenue to Washington Avenue (U.S. 40) to Burhans Boulevard (U.S. 11). Westbound traffic can take Burhans Boulevard (U.S. 11) to West Franklin Street (U.S. 40) to West Side Avenue.

Local traffic and emergency vehicles can still drive through the area.

The closure is expected to remain in effect until Wednesday, July 20.
