Maugansville Little League to host state tournament

Maugansville Little League will host the Maryland State 11-12 Little League All-Star Tournament July 23-29.

The opening ceremony will start Saturday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m.

Game times that day will be at 1, 4 and 7 p.m.  

In preparation for the tournament, help is needed to spruce up the field and ballpark area.

A work detail is scheduled for this Saturday. Volunteers are asked to report to the major league field at 10 a.m.

Anyone who would like to volunteer during the tournament is asked to call Greg Lloyd at 240-675-4914.

Save those box tops

The Western Heights Middle School PTA is continuing to collect Box Tops for Education.  

Please remember to save box tops during the summer months.  

Your donation is greatly appreciated. Remember, each box top collected provides additional funding to benefit the students at Western Heights.

Vacation Bible school

Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, at 13535 Broadfording Church Road in Hagers-town, will host vacation Bible school July 17 to  21. The theme is “Pandamania, Where God is Wild About You!”  

Children will explore a bamboo forest filled with pandas, participate in Bible learning activities, worship service, play games, eat snacks, create crafts and participate in other activities.

It is for those ages 3 through sixth grade and will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each day.

There is no charge for the school. Registration is encouraged, but not required. For more information, call 301-739-1848.

Haven Lutheran Church

Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown, invites those ages 3 years to fifth grade to its vacation Bible school titled “Pandamania, Where God Is Wild About You! “

It begins Monday, July 25, and runs through Friday, July 29, beginning at 5:45 p.m. each evening with a light supper, followed by a fast-paced evening of games, crafts, Bible adventures and music.

Senior League trying to raise funds

The Maugansville Senior League District 1 championship team is trying to raise money to go to the state tournament.  

The team will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Auto Zone on Virginia Avenue (next to Food Lion).

Hot dogs and sodas will be for sale to help with the fundraising. Donations will be accepted as well.
