FUNKSTOWN — Battle of Funkstown re-enactors will be foraging for food on Saturday morning, town officials reminded residents this week.

During a meeting Monday night, Town Councilmen John Phillips III and Richard Gaver offered an update on the re-enactment and Day in the Park events this weekend.

Re-enactors will be foraging by stopping by homes from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Residents who want to participate are asked to call Town Hall at 301-791-0948 by 4 p.m. today.

The re-enactors are looking for items they can toss in their sacks to eat later such as canned goods, wrapped breads and cookies, or fruits and vegetables, according to an event flier.

Any excess food not used by the re-enactors will be donated to St. Paul's food bank.

Gaver said 17 vendors are expected at the Day in the Park Saturday at Funkstown Community Park.

There will also be a street battle on Baltimore Street at 10 a.m. Saturday; food at the fire hall Saturday and Sunday; and a field battle in the park at 1 p.m. Sunday, according to the schedule.
