CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Mississippi man charged in a March 17 vehicle crash that killed a Waynesboro, Pa., woman waived his arraignment Wednesday in the Franklin County (Pa.) Court of Common Pleas.
David Michael Szumigala, 21, is charged with third-degree murder, vehicular homicide and 17 other counts.
He has been held without bail since the accident in which 45-year-old Judithann "Judy" Clement died.
The collision occurred near the intersection of Pa. 16 and Grant Street in the Borough of Waynesboro.
Franklin County District Attorney Matt Fogal said Wednesday afternoon in an email that Szumigala waived arraignment and had a not-guilty plea entered on his behalf.
Szumigala is scheduled for trial in the autumn, Fogal said.
Waynesboro police said Clement, a mother of nine children, was driving a Dodge Grand Caravan that was struck by a Chevrolet Impala driven by Szumigala.
Minutes earlier, he had been involved in a police pursuit that officers said reached speeds of 120 mph.
Clement was pronounced dead at York (Pa.) Hospital.
