GreenJackets come back to sting Suns

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Augusta GreenJackets rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Hagerstown Suns 5-3 on Tuesday night in the first game of the their four-game series.

The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Adrian Sanchez hit a one-out double, took third on a groundout and scored on a single by Kevin Keyes.

The Suns scored twice in the fifth to up their lead to 3-0. With two outs, Blake Kelso reached on an error and went to second on a single by Sanchez. Each runner then moved up a base on a wild pitch, and both scored on Russell Moldenhauer’s double to left.

The GreenJackets answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Lollis hit a two-out RBI single to make it a 3-1 game, while ending Suns starter Robbie Ray’s night. With reliever Sam Brown on the mound, Lollis stole second, went to third on an error by catcher Cole Leonida and scored on a wild pitch.

Augusta rallied for three more runs in the seventh to take the lead. With two on and two outs, Ryan Demmin relieved Brown on the mound and promptly gave up a two-run double to Rafael Rodriguez and an RBI double to Jeff Arnold.

Brown (2-3) took the loss, while Demmin got the blown save.

Augusta’s Drew Bowlin (1-0) pitched two innings of relief to get the win.

Sanchez and Jason Martinson each finished with three of Hagerstown’s nine hits.
