The Franklin County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees met for a membership meeting at Solomon's Lutheran Church in New Franklin, Pa.

After a short business meeting conducted by association President Frank Gaugler, dinner was served. Guests were then introduced and awards were presented.

Gaugler introduced the president of Region 4, Eloise Swailes, who made a few remarks before awarding an outstanding chapter president award and gavel pin to Gaugler. Another guest, Sally Turley, a representative of the school retirement board, was introduced.

An educator, Loretta Woodson, established awards to be presented to an outstanding educator and a support member. This year, the awards were made to Waynesboro, Pa., school employees.

Tammi Richards received the 2011 Loretta Woodson Educator Award. Shirley Sanders was the recipient of the Loretta Woodson Support Professional Award.

The main award was the scholarship award. Glendora Moul, treasurer, presented Brianne Kozain with a $500 scholarship. Brianne is a member of the 2011 graduating class at Waynesboro High School. She will attend Shippensburg University to study elementary education.

After the awards presentation, Joan Bowen, dressed in 1864 period clothing arrived to tell the tale of the Burning of Chambersburg (through her grandmother's memories). Artifacts saved the fire were displayed.

Door prizes were won by Janet Smedley, Faye Gaugler and Marilyn McCovey. William Butts won the Library Award, which he gave to the Coyle Library.
