July 11, 2011

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Police in Martinsburg found 17 shell casings at the scene of a shooting Sunday night in the 100 block of North Spring Street, but found no victims or suspects, according to a news release.

Officers responded to investigate a report of “shots fired” at 9:16 p.m., Martinsburg Police Detective J.D. Luciano said in the news release Monday.

Witnesses told police that two men were seen running from the area, one possibly wearing a white tank top.

There reportedly was a man on the ground in the area of Blue White Grill and Peking restaurant, but he was not found, police said. No other injuries were reported, police said.

In addition to the 9 mm shell casings, police found a blue baseball hat.

One of the rounds fired struck a residence at 118 N. Spring St., and another round struck a vehicle in the area, police said.

The shooting prompted police to temporarily close the 100 block of North Spring Street until the investigation at the scene was concluded.

Anyone with information about the shooting may call Berkeley County Crime Solvers at 304-267-4999 or the Martinsburg Police Department at 304-264-2100.
