A tractor-trailer traveling south on Interstate 81 left the highway Monday night and traveled through a wooded area before coming to rest near a fence behind Pavestone Co. near the Halfway Boulevard exit, according to Maryland State Police.

Trooper R. Pittman said the accident occurred at about 8 p.m. and the driver and his wife were taken to Meritus Medical Center with what were believed to be minor injures.

Pittman said it was not clear what caused the tractor-trailer to leave the interstate.

Traffic moved slowly around the scene but was backed up for about 2 miles.
