FREDERICK, Md. — Police said they have a first-degree murder warrant for a Frederick man in connection with the shooting death Friday night of a Frederick woman in the Orchard Terrace area.

The suspect has been identified as Melvin William Smith, 27, also known as “Rock,” according to a news release from the Frederick Police Department.

Police said they consider Smith to be armed and extremely dangerous.

He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his right forearm of a skull and other images, and he has “izzy” tattooed on his right wrist, police said.

On Friday at 7:25 p.m., the Frederick Police Department received several calls for a shooting in the area of Orchard Terrace and Hill Street, the release said.

The first responding officers found a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the release said.
