Selma Berg Hottinger, 93, of Sharpsburg, Md., and formerly of Gaithersburg, Md., passed away Friday, July 9, 2011, at her home.

Born April 10, 1918, in Guthrie, Minn., she was the daughter of the late Anton and Dorthea Knarvik Berg.

She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Hottinger, in 2000.

She was a member of Flower Hill Church of the Brethren, where she made quilts with the ladies group. Selma was also an avid gardener and bird watcher.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hoover of Sharpsburg; a granddaughter, Julie Pippel of Sharpsburg; a grandson, Robert Hoover of Warfordsburg, Pa.; a great-granddaughter, Natalie Pippel of Sharpsburg; a sister, Hilma Henry of Anacortes, Wash.; and a sister, Lenora Burke of Kent, Wash.

In addition to her parents and husband, Selma was preceded in death by a son, James Hottinger; one sister; and seven brothers.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Flower Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Rockville, Md., with the Rev. Ernest E. Witmer officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md. The funeral home will be open Tuesday at 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
