George Franklin Bowers, 90, of North Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Loyalton of Hagerstown.

Born Monday, Dec. 20, 1920, in Beaver Creek, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Edward Bowers and the late Carrie Edna Fulton Bowers.

He attended Beaver Creek School and graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1939. He was employed at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, Pa., retiring in 1984 after 43 years. He was a member of the Artisans Craft Guild and has been well-known for his work in metal and wood for many years.

He was a lifelong member of Beaver Creek Christian Church and attended First Christian Church.

 He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Pearl Mae Bowers; one son, Ronald Lee Bowers, of Hagerstown; sister, Helen Winifred Bowers Stouffer, of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Michael A. Bowers and wife, Angie, and Christi C. Bowers; and great-grandchildren, Conner M. Bowers and Maddie K. Bowers.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Beaver Creek Cemetery, Beaver Creek, with the Rev. David Shreeves officiating.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
