Ann Moss Smith, 77, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., departed this life on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at her home.

Born Aug. 20, 1933, in Charleston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Hall Waldeck Moss and Geraldine Goff Moss.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Huntington Smith, and three children, Cynthia Waugh and husband, Robert, of Sykesville, Md., Matthew Smith and wife, Lois, of Manchester, Md., and Andrew Smith of Keedysville, Md.; four grandchildren, Eric and Steffan Waugh, and Luke and Kelsey Smith; a brother, Jeffrey Moss and wife, Diane, of Belle, W.Va.; a sister, Sara Moss Young and husband, Joe, of Craigsville, W.Va.; and nephews, Fielding Moss, and Stephen and Michael Young.

Ann was an active member of Trinity Asbury United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. In addition, she taught Bible school for many years. She taught second grade in West Virginia and Maryland for 22 years; she was a member and past president of Morningside CEOS Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Ye Town of Bath DAR and Morgan County Retired Teachers Association.

Ann was a 1951 graduate of Cowen High School and a 1955 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she was a member of Wesleyan’s Emeritus Club and the Alpha Xi Delta National Sorority. She was also a high school and college cheerleader.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one nephew, Jonathan Moss.

Ann’s family would like to thank the entire Berkeley Springs community for the outpouring of love and kindness they have bestowed upon her during her 16-year battle with cancer.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

The funeral service will be Sunday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Craig officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery, W.Va. 9, Berkeley Springs.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Trinity Asbury United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 672, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411 or West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, W.Va.
