Motorcycle ride to benefit shelter

The Dave Alderson Memorial Motorcycle Ride will take place Sunday, July 17.

Riders will enjoy a leisurely ride through Western Maryland and Pennsylvania that will end at Washington County Regional Park.  

The price for registered riders is $25 and the first 100 riders will receive a custom-designed ride patch. Early registration is suggested.

Registration on the day of the event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, and the ride starts at 11 a.m. The price on the day of registration is $30 per rider.

Riders are invited to register online at, at the shelter or by calling Ben at 301-733-2060 ext. 239.

A picnic lunch will be served and music will be provided by The Spotlight’s on You DJ service. There will be raffle prizes and an award for the top two pledge earners.

Proceeds will go to the animal shelter.

CWA meeting set for July 19
Communications Workers of America Local 2105’s Retired Members Chapter will hold its quarterly meeting Tuesday, July 19, in the back dining room at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion at 405 Northern Ave. in Hagerstown.  

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m.

The guest speaker will discuss energy conservation and efficiency in the home. The business meeting agenda will include bargaining issues and the October picnic.

Way to go, Don and Shirley
Congratulations goes out to Don and Shirley Hovermale of Broadfording Road. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 4.  Also, their national champion miniature horse just won its fifth blue ribbon at its first show of the season.

Group won’t meet in July
The Historic City Park Neighborhoods 1st group will not meet in July. The group was to meet Monday, July 11.

The group will next meet Monday, Aug. 8, at 7 p.m. at Emmanuel Methodist Church on the corner of Summit and Howard streets in Hagerstown. The group meets the second Monday of the month.
