Letter to the editor - July 7

July 06, 2011

What do we celebrate when the rich control all?

To the editor:

As we celebrated July 4, to celebrate the anniversary of our country's independence from England, we are faced with politicians who label themselves Republicans, but are really not Republicans at all, insofar as they follow a narrow ideology in unison, rather than trying to represent the diversity of their respective states and districts.

This ideology was created by Grover Norquist primarily to make sure that the richest Americans do not have to be responsible to the needs of America.

Some of these needs include repairing crumbling roads, highways, bridges and railroad tracks; maintaining a decent level of health for those who can't even afford to see a doctor; paying for public schools, police and a multitude of other vital services that  the irresponsible, tax-avoiding rich care not to spend a nickel on.

If we passively allow this group of rich men's flunkies to deny the necessary funding for vital services, then why should we celebrate independence on the Fourth of July? Write your representative and your senators to let them know we do not want our country stolen by uncaring, irresponsible and finally, irrational politicians.
