Mr. Arthur Glen Grossnickle, 84, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Northampton Manor Health Care, Frederick, Md.

Born Jan. 8, 1927, in Burkittsville, Md., he was the son of the late Daniel R. and Carrie S. Toms Grossnickle.

He was the husband of Jean G. Simpson Grossnickle, his wife of 60 years.

Mr. Grossnickle attended Liberty School, Libertytown, Md., and worked on the family farm in the Burkittsville area before moving to a farm on McKinstry Mill Road in Frederick County in 1943. He farmed there until retirement in 1976. He then worked for Frederick County Public Schools as a custodian from January 1977 until his second retirement in January 1990. He had been the head custodian at Walkersville (Md.) Middle School followed by West Frederick Middle School.

He was a lifelong member of Edgewood Church of the Brethren and a member of the Frederick County Retired School Personnel Association.

He enjoyed going to the Frederick Fair, watching baseball, going on bus trips and reading.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the loving care given to Arthur by the staff of Northampton Manor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. Grossnickle of Frederick; a sister, Erma R. Grossnickle Saylor of Frederick; a brother, Rogerlee M. U. Grossnickle and wife Ann of Frederick; an aunt, Beatrice Toms of Frederick; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Myron G. Grossnickle, Nov. 5, 2008; and a sister, Nancy R. Grossnickle Black, Oct. 15, 2003.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown, with his pastor, the Rev. Paul N. Leatherman Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 10.
