One lane of Manor Drive is blocked off from Dual Highway to Pangborn Boulevard. Workers are finishing  construction of a sidewalk in the area that reaches Pangborn Elementary School, Dan Poffenberger, construction inspector for the City of Hagerstown said.

The sidewalk is part of the Safe Routes to School Project, according to Poffenberger. The project, funded by the state but managed by the city, involves installing sidewalks with handicap accessibility around schools to make the area more friendly for students.

"The goal is to make a path for kids in the area to walk to school," Poffenberger said. "We are doing these all over town."

The work on Manor Drive is expected to be finished by Thursday, Poffenberger said. Later this summer, Salem Avenue and Western Heights will have sidewalks installed to make the routes to schools in those areas more pedestrian friendly as well.

J&P Excavating Co. was contracted by the city to work on the project, according to Poffenberger.
