Civil War re-enactment to be held this weekend

Historical events that took place in Williamsport from July 4 through 14, 1863, will be re-enacted this weekend.

The opening event is a meet and greet Friday at 7 p.m. at Springfield Farm Barn, featuring the music by Susquahannah Travelers and Maryland Divison Sons of Confederate Veterans Color Guard.

On Saturday, from 9 a.m. through nightfall, there will be camps, skirmishes, book signings, artillery demonstrations, campfires, storytelling and music throughout town, from the Springfield Farm Barn to Cushwa Basin and River Bottom Park.

On Sunday at 10 a.m., the March to Falling Waters will take place.

Chicken barbecue  planned at Zion
Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday from 10 a.m. until sold out.

The meal costs $7 for one-half chicken with baked beans, applesauce, roll and butter; or $6 for one-half chicken.

All proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity.

Basket raffle planned at Red Men Lodge Sunday
The Past Pocahontas League is sponsoring its second annual family basket raffle Sunday at The Improved Order of Red Men Lodge 84, 16129 Lappans Road, Williams port.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The drawing will start at 1:30 p.m.

The raffle features more than 75 filled baskets. Food will be available for purchase. Iced tea, coffee and punch plus desserts will be available for free. Games of chance will also be available..

The event is open to the public. Tickets cost $10, which includes 20 tickets for the basket raffle. Everyone must have a ticket to enter. Family members must be 6 years or older.

Mr. Cooper to visit VBS
A Vacation Bible School at Calvary Temple, 147 S. Conococheague St., will include Bible stories, crafts, snacks and fun with Mr. Cooper on Main Street. The event will be held from July 11 to 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. for those ages 4 to 18.

This year’s theme is “Inside Out and Upside Down on Main Street — Where Jesus Makes a Difference Each Day.”

Clothes of Hope schedule for July
Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, and July 14 and 28; and Monday, July 18.

It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday and July 25; and Thursday, July 21.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are appreciated.

Food Bank to hold food giveaway
A one-day food giveaway sponsored by the Williamsport Food Bank takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Williamsport Town Hall.

Approximately 6,000 pounds of fresh and canned foods will be given out.

The event is for those in the Williamsport school district only. Individuals must bring a valid driver’s license or current utility bill showing name and address.
