Morning Star concert planned

The Morning Star anniversary concert will be held at Falcon Park (formerly the Elks picnic area), 13064 Greencastle Pike in Hagerstown.

The Morning Star Singers, along with the Covalts, Knight Family, Gospel Strings Bluegrass, Kenny Johnson & Co., Nancy Wiles & Jessica Snyder, Snare Family and Mariah will perform Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m. There will be a chicken barbecue and other food available. A gospel karaoke contest will be held at 1 p.m. No tickets, a $6 donation is suggested.

Soccer registration

Clear Spring Soccer Club is holding fall registration. The deadline is July 17. Tryouts for the U10 and older age groups will be held on Saturday, July 9, and Monday, July 11, at Clear Spring Park.

On Saturday, tryouts for U-10 are at 9 a.m.; U-12 at 10 a.m.; and U-14 at 11 a.m.

On Monday, July 11, tryouts for U-10 are at 5:30 p.m.; U-12 at 6:30 p.m.; and U-14 at 7:30 p.m.

Movie event

The Clear Spring Library will hold a Novel Destinations Movie Afternoon Tuesday, July 12, at 1 p.m. The movie, "The Da Vinci Code" (Rated PG-13) will be shown. At the end of the movie, the winner of the literary quiz drawing will be announced. You do not have to be in the summer reading club to attend the movie. Snacks will be provided.

Did you know that on Jan. 3, 1935, a meeting was held to organize a fire company for the town of Clear Spring?

The first fire hall was rented from 1935 until it was bought in 1938.

The fire hall was where Town Hall now stands. It was used as a fire hall until 1948, when it was sold to the town of Clear Spring.
