Hagerstown man charged with assault, threatening arson,

July 03, 2011

A Hagerstown man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he threatened to burn the home of a female acquaintance, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office said in a news release issued Sunday.

Jeromy Sweigert, 29, was charged with threatening arson.

The arrest stemmed from a domestic dispute between Sweigert and the woman Saturday afternoon at her Clinton Avenue home, the fire marshal’s office said.

Sweigert was taken into custody at a Summit Avenue residence, the release said.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department also responded and filed separate charges related to the incident, the release said.

Court records show Sweigert also was charged with first- and second-degree assault.

Deputy fire marshals took Sweigert to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on a $40,000 bond.
