CHEWSVILLE — Valley continued its dominance in the Maryland District 1 Junior League Tournament on Friday, scoring 19 runs to support Kyle Bywaters’ two-hit shutout to defeat Maugansville 19-0 in five innings in the winners’ bracket final.

“Kyle Bywaters pitched a whale of a game, and I’m proud of the defense,” said Valley manager Jeff Bowers.

Bywaters had a no-hitter going through 4 1/3 innings before allowing back-to-back singles by Zack Prather and Alec Barnhart. Bywaters then induced two harmless grounders to preserve the shutout.

“I really didn’t expect to go the whole game, I was only expecting to pitch a couple of innings,” said Bywaters, who had three strikeouts and two walks. “I just came out and threw strikes and my defense helped me out a lot.”

Valley’s offense helped him out a lot too, taking advantage of Maugansville’s shaky pitching to score seven runs in both the first and second innings for a 14-0 lead.

Andrew Bowers and Chris Hutzell led Valley with three RBIs each and Jake Barr hit a two-run single in the second.

“Today was a repeat of Wednesday. We got the momentum and we kept it,” said Bowers. “Any time we can play like that, we’ll take it.”

“Valley’s a great well-developed squad,” said Maugansville manager Noel Medina. “The best team always wins and they were the best team today.”

Maugansville will host Conococheague today at 1:30 p.m., looking to earn a rematch with Valley in the championship round on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

“We still have the game tomorrow, and hopefully we’ll see them again,” said Medina.
