Berkley Hoge Conrad, 85, of Hagerstown, Md., died on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, both near at hand and far in spirit.
Born Aug. 1, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Walter and Emma Triplett Conrad.
He was a graduate of Williamsport High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, where he began his training in sheet metal work.
He was employed at Pangborn Corp., Tebalow and Shuping Manufacturing. Berkley started Marine & Electronics Manufacturing and Hopewell Manufacturing.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown.
Berkley was a true outdoorsman who loved the mountains.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettie Lou Conrad; one daughter, Patricia A. Geiman and husband, Stephen, of Hagerstown; three sons, Berkley A. Conrad and wife, Estella, of Helena, Mont., Ronald L. Conrad of Millis, Mass., and David L. Conrad and wife, Emily, of Bowie, Md.; two sisters, Betty Ann Carroll of South Point, Ohio, and Emma Jane Cline of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Maudie Lee Shank; and a daughter-in-law, Carole Conrad.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Poling will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m.
