Parkway Neurosciences and Spine Institute plans to expand into a new, $8.84 million medical office building next to its current office on Western Maryland Parkway, according to a Washington County building permit.

The permit, approved May 11, is for construction of a 52,812-square-foot medical office building at 13 Western Maryland Parkway, just west of Hagerstown.

The building will be two stories, with a partial basement, and will connect to the institute's existing building via an addition to that building, according to permit documents.

Parkway Neuroscience and Spine Institute's current office is at 17 Western Maryland Parkway.

Waynesboro Construction Co. Inc. is to construct the new building.

According to project notes filed with the building permit, the first floor of the new building is to have exam rooms, doctor's offices, a lobby, and MRI, CT scan and X-ray rooms.

The second floor is to have a physical therapy area and future tenant spaces to be leased to businesses, and the basement is to have administrative offices and conference rooms.

Parkway Neuroscience and Spine Institute is a "comprehensive spine treatment center" staffed by neurosurgeons, physiatrists, neurologists, pain specialists, chiropractors, physician assistants and physical therapists, according to its website,

The institute also has a Chambersburg office.
