South Mountain advances in Senior tourney

YOUTH BASEBALL

WILLIAMSPORT — South Mountain defeated Conococheague 5-1 on Thursday in the Maryland District 1 Senior League Tournament losers’ bracket semifinal. No other information was provided.

South Mountain advanced to play at Valley in the losers’ bracket final Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that game will travel to Maugansville two days later for the championship round.

LEGION BASEBALL

Funkstown 6-8, Berkeley 2-1

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Funkstown swept Berkeley to improve to 11-1 on Wednesday.

In the opener, Ryan Sword, Ryne Willard, Jake Bachtell, Trevor Haupt and Brock Heiston each had two hits for Funkstown. J.T. Root pitched a complete game for the victory.

In the nightcap, Nic Martin had two hits and Aaron Stoner went the distance for the victory.

Miguel wins WACO Juniors event

Andrew Miguel won the Beaver Creek Classic No. 2, shooting 39-39-78 for a two-shot victory over Chad Shindle.

The next WACO Juniors event is the Yingling’s Qualifier on July 12.

Softball tournament

The fourth annual Church Slow Pitch Tournament will be held July 16 in Chambersburg, Pa. Proceeds will benefit Freedom in Christ Saints Softball. Cost is $150 per team with balls supplied.
