Historical society to celebrate Founder's Day

The Sharpsburg Historical Society invites all current and former residents of the Sharpsburg area to attend the potluck picnic celebrating the July 9, 1763, founding of Sharpsburg. The picnic is on July 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the community room at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 209 West Main St., Sharpsburg. Those interested in attending can RSVP by July 5 by calling 301-992-9767.

Ruritan tractor pull scheduled for Saturday

The Rohrersville Ruritan will hold a tractor pull Saturday, beginning at 4 p.m. in the Rohrersville Community Park. The pull consists of 10 classes. Admission is $7 for adults, free for children younger than 8.

Sharpsburg Lions Club plans July events

The Sharpsburg Lions summer picnic is July 7. A sing-along at Fahrney Keedy is scheduled for July 14, and a regular meeting will take place in their den July 21. Lions will attend a July 23 changing of the banner at the LaVale Fire Hall.

Horse council to present Hunter Horse Show

The Washington County Horse Council will present the Hunter Horse Show Sunday, July 10, at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center on  Sharpsburg Pike. All divisions are subject to be split by age depending on the number of entries. In addition to medal classes, new this year is recognition for the Hunter Series High Point Junior and Adult. Classes are $10 each and $25 for each division. Medal classes are $15 each. The public is invited to watch and attend this free event. Visit www.wchorsecouncil.org for more information.

Red Cross offers training course for baby sitters

The Washington County Red Cross at 1131 Conrad Court in Hagerstown will offer a baby-sitting class Thursday, July 7 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for individuals, ages 11 to 15. Register at www.RedCross.org; space is limited. Financial assistance is available. For more information, call 301-739-0717.
