Thelma V. Bittinger, 72, of Christy Avenue, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

Born Oct. 14, 1938, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hazel (Schroeder) McCauley.

She attended Baltimore area schools.

She was formerly employed by Westinghouse and also had a day care service at her home.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Greensburg, Md.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wayne A. Bittinger, whom she married Aug. 24, 1971; daughter, Sandi L. Myers and husband, Chris, of Hancock, Md.; son, David L. Ruth of West Chester, Pa.; sister, Janet Wolf of Stevensville, Md.; and grandchildren, Kristen Myers, Nicholas Ruth, Nathan Ruth, Abby Ruth and Andrew Ruth.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy L. Ruth; and one sister, Patricia Wolf.

Services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Accident, Md.


The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
