Tourney time arrives for Little Leaguers

The Little League Baseball postseason gets under way Friday evening with four games in the Maryland District 1 9-10 Tournament.

Defending champion Clear Spring plays host to Halfway to highlight the first night of action. In other games, Hancock is at South Mountain, Sharpsburg hosts Conococheague and Maugansville travels to National. All games start at 6 p.m.

Friday’s winners come right back to host second-round games on Saturday, while losing teams get a two-day break before playing elimination games on Monday night.

The 9-10 championship game is scheduled for July 2, with an “if necessary” game set for July 5.

Four other district tournaments will be played in Washington County over the next three weeks.

* The 10-11 tournament begins Saturday and is scheduled to wrap up by July 2.

* The Senior (age 14-16) tournament begins Tuesday and is scheduled to be completed by July 9.

* The Junior (age 13-14) tournament begins Wednesday and is set to be completed by July 8.

* The 11-12 tournament is scheduled to run July 6-15.
