Mail Call - June 23

June 23, 2011

“Does anyone know of a place that recycles or shreds tires? Or maybe someone that will pick them up. We would appreciate it if you left a message on Mail Call.”
— Boonsboro

“I am always outraged by violence, whether it be against men or women. You can help do something about it by contributing to CASA, which offers programs and shelter for the abused. They can be reached at 301-739-4990. I personally have seen what changes they can make in a person’s life — including saving lives.”
 — Williamsport

“I haven’t heard any liberals mention how Obama stuck his nose in Boeing wanting to build a plant in North Carolina. North Carolina is a right-to-work state. Unions stuck their nose in, as did Obama, as he says he owes unions. Constitution says president has no right to interfere in private sector. Unions caused many corporations to move overseas. North Carolina needs work badly.  First, O wipes Gulf states out of work over politics and personal gain. Those states are most Republican. I forgot.”
— Hagerstown

“Gov. Corbett, Sen. Alloway, Todd Rock and Rob Kauffman, thank you all so much for cutting the education system in the state of Pennsylvania. Also, Sen. Alloway, for allowing me to shoot someone who comes in my yard, if they are threatening me. And Todd Rock, we have nothing more to worry about in the state of Pennsylvania than our teachers going on strike. Also, to the Waynesboro school board, for getting rid of the very wealthy teachers and programs in our school.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“The new bus transfer point on Franklin Street appears to be nearing opening time, but I have yet to see anything at all about how the buses are going to be routed. Why don’t they put out maps now? Is it going to be a classic Washington County boondoggle of waiting until the day they open and think about giving out maps? Get the maps out now, so people can know what we’re soon going to be facing.”
— Hagerstown

“The military has been under Social Security since January 1957. The $10,000 life insurance policy was replaced with survivor’s benefit — that is, if they have dependents. Nonprofit organizations, such as Paralyzed Veterans of America and Healing Heroes, are needed to assist our wounded veterans of these senseless wars, along with Medicare.”
— Martinsburg, W.Va.

“I’ve just moved to Hancock this past year, and have been invited to join different organizations. It seems to me they all have good intentions to do things for the good of the town, but the infighting and backbiting that goes on is childish and mean. No wonder they can’t get new members.”
— Hancock

“To the caller from Hagerstown who says that the way they ought to assess taxes is basically the difference between what the value of the place is now and what the value would be if it was properly maintained: That is an excellent, excellent idea. The only downfall is, unfortunately, I don’t believe there’s anybody right now in the city government smart enough to figure out how to make that work.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling in response to the article in Mail Call on the 16th of June, from the person from Hagerstown who says that President Obama is doing a good job, he’s honest, he doesn’t steal, he doesn’t cheat. Well, he most certainly does steal. He’s taking our taxpayers’ hard-earned money and blowing it to these other countries, giving trillions of dollars away a year. Yes, he does lie, too. He wasted a year or a year and a half with Obamacare, which is going to go down the tube, too. Anyway, I just wanted to respond to that. You need to get your facts straight.”
— Hagerstown

“You know the sad part about all these government officials falling from grace, whether it’s sex scandals or whatever it is they’re involved in, their corruption, the sad part of it all is they walk away millionaires, then they run around all over the country giving speeches, making hundreds of thousands of dollars per speech. So they’ve bilked the people a couple different ways. They deserve everything they get if they’re dishonest. And sometimes they deserve what they don’t get because they shouldn’t be getting paid for the mistakes.”
— Sharpsburg

“My daughter will be 18 in 37 days. Year to date, I have paid over $40,000 in child support. Also, I’ve paid for all school supplies, school clothes, school lunch food, toiletries for the home in which she lives with her father. Not all mothers are deadbeats, thank you very much.”
— Halfway

“I just find it amazing that some supposedly mature adult is actually jealous of the Fred Basset comic strip. What’s up with that?”
— Hancock

“I have been recycling for over 20 years. If Funkstown removes our recycling bins because of Hagerstown residents bringing their trash to Funkstown, I will no longer recycle. If I have to drive to another location other than Funkstown, I will set what I recycle in with my regular trash. Why should we suffer just because Hagerstown got rid of their recycling bins?”
— Funkstown

“So to all you crooked leeches that’s supposed to be a politician, I hope you’re happy, and I hope you don’t sleep at night, for what you’ve done to this man to make him resign. You are all no-accounts as far as I’m concerned, and I have never had any respect because the media has ruined this whole world, and they’d better be investigating all of them now. Hallelujah then.”
— Boonsboro

“Concerning the situation up in New Jersey where the union leader called the governor of New Jersey ‘Adolf Christie,’ this man, the governor in New Jersey has faced up to these big-time union people, people who are getting lots of money through entitlements, and it’s just too bad the state of Maryland doesn’t have a Gov. Christie who has some guts.”
— Hagerstown
