Hilda M. Newcomer, 90

Hilda Marie Newcomer 90, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Golden Living Center.

Born Monday, Nov. 8, 1920, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles R. Fehle and the late Henrietta Hohman Fehle. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis E. Roberts, in 1940, and by her second husband, Albert Garfield Newcomer, in 1983.

She was a graduate of Eastern High School in Baltimore. She was employed with the Department of Education in Baltimore City, the Washington County Board of Education and later retired in 1982 from Fort Detrick after 20 years of service.

She was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, Women's Club of Hagerstown and the founding president (emeritus) of the Washington County Organization of Office Personnel.

She was an active member of the International Association of Lions Clubs for over 30 years. She was currently a member of the Hagerstown Lions Club and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow and the Arnold Patz Fellow.

She is survived by her daughters, Clare Marie Newcomer of Hagerstown, and Edna Louise Newcomer of Reston, Va., and a brother, Charles F. Fehle of Manchester, Md.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert G. Fehle.

Services will be held Monday, June 27, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown, with the Revs. David Kaplan and Dale Dusman officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, on Sunday, June 26, 2011, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. on Monday June 27, 2011, at the church.

Interment will be in the Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro, Md.
