Born May 21, 1939, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Lloyd Roland and Frances (Blickenstaff) Kline.

He attended Smithsburg High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Jim had several positions in construction and auto repair early in his career and was then employed by Mack Trucks for 10 years, until the mid-80's. He spent the last 26 years working in the electrical industry. He worked for Crum Electric Co. in Frederick, Md., for 15 years; Warren/Tri-M Electrical for five years; and the last six years until his retirement for medical reasons, at RCD Electrical of Purcellville, Va. He was a very spirited and loyal team member who truly enjoyed what he did, and interacting with people. Work was a special place for Jim, and he has developed many loving friends over the years.

He was a life member of the Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co., where he served as chief for seven years and helped start the carnival and steam and craft show, and was a member of the North American Rod & Gun Club, where he was a member of the skeet-shooting team.

Over the past 30 years, he dearly enjoyed hunting and the outdoors with his son, grandson, Matt, and son in-law, Robbie. He enjoyed building crafts in his workshop and collecting various collectibles. He also loved watching wildlife, especially baby animals.

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy A. (Durbin) Kline, whom he married July 31, 1958; daughters, Debra Jean Serig and husband, Jeff, of Smithsburg, Dorothy Ann Smith and husband, Harold, of Hagerstown, Pamela Sue Wagner and husband, Bob, of Elkton, Md., and Penny Ellen Smith and husband, Robbie, of State Line, Pa.; a son, Jamie Lee Kline and wife, Shelly, of Hancock; sister, Dorothy Miller and husband, Richard, of Williamsport; brothers, Jack Kline and wife, Faye, of Hagerstown; Bill Kline and wife, Shirley, of Cavetown, and Jay Kline and wife, Patty, of Greencastle, Pa.; and sister in-law, Betty Kline of Chewsville,

He was preceded in death by son, James Gordon Kline II; brothers, Eugene Kline and Charles Joe Kline, and grandson, Jamie Lee Smith. In addition, Jim has always thought dearly of his grandfather-like friend, the late Mr. Charles Ridenour, whom he lived with for several years as a child.

Services will be held Sunday, June 26, 2011, at 4:15 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, Md., with Pastor Greg Tyler officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. before the service.

It was Jim's wish to be cremated and have his ashes spread around his favorite hunting spot on the family property, along with the ashes of his late dog, Gizmo. The family is planning a private ceremony in the fall of the year to honor his wish and will place a memorial to last a lifetime in his memory.

In lieu of thoughtful and caring gifts other than flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of James G. Kline to Tower Bank, 131 W. Main St., Hancock, MD 21750, to be used for medical expenses amassed over the past several years.
