Masons award scholarship to DeTora

Antietam Masonic Lodge 197 recently presented its $500 Masonic scholarship to Keedysville resident Matthew DeTora, a recent graduate of Boonsboro High School.  

Matthew, the son of Carol and Bill DeTora, graduated from Boonsboro High with highest honors and received the Washington County Public Schools Academic Excellence Award.  

He was band captain this year and was awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award for outstanding achievement in instrumental music and the Service Award from the school board for having more than double the required number of student service hours to the community.  

In 2009, Matthew was awarded his Eagle Scout rank and has since earned his Silver Palm (15 merit badges above Eagle) with Troop 20 in Boonsboro.  

Matthew will attend Salisbury University in the fall to major in business management.  He was awarded the Salisbury University Presidential Scholarship and plans to earn his Master's in Business Administration in five years at the Perdue School of Business.

Sharpsburg churches to hold Bible school  

The Sharpsburg Main Street churches will hold a community Vacation Bible School July 10 to 14 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 W. Main St., Sharpsburg.  

The Bible school will explore the parables of Jesus through the theme Inside Out and Upside Down on Main Street. Classes are for preschool children, those in grades K-2, 3-4, 5-6 and adult.

Ruritan to hold tractor pull July 2

Rohrersville Ruritan will hold a tractor pull Saturday, July 2, at 4 p.m. in the Rohrersville Community Park.

It will be the first time the Shenandoah Valley Tractor Pullers will pull in this area.

The pull consists of 10 classes including garden tractors, tractors with motorcycle engines and two classes of mini-rod tractors that are fitted with automotive engines. Admission is $7 for adults, Those younger than 8 will be admitted free.

Bring lawn chairs.
