HAGERSTOWN — East Antietam Street in Hagerstown is closed between South Cannon Avenue and King Street as part of the demolition project of the former Washington County Hospital complex at the intersection of Antietam Street and Cannon Avenue, according to the city of Hagerstown.

The street was closed in the same location from May 31 to June 2 so a bridge connecting the hospital to Pangborn Hall could be demolished. That was part of the first phase of the demolition project.

Brandenburg Industrial was awarded the contract by Meritus Health to demolish the hospital, according to a published report in May. The company applied for a demolition permit from the city of Hagerstown in early March.

The street is expected to remain closed until 5 p.m. Friday, according to the city.
