SALISBURY, Md. — Four Hagerstown Suns players saw action for the North Division in Tuesday’s South Atlantic League All-Star Game, but the South Division prevailed, 6-3.
Three Suns started the game for the North. Third baseman Blake Kelso was the leadoff hitter and went 1-for-2 with a single and a run scored. Right fielder Bryce Harper hit third and went 0-for-2 with an RBI groundout. Catcher David Freitas batted fifth and went 0-for-2. All three played the first four innings before being replaced.
Suns pitcher Christopher Manno worked a scoreless top of the eighth inning for the North, allowing one walk and striking out one.
Kelso led off the bottom of the first inning for the North with his single to right. Kelso raced to third on a single by Manuel Machado and scored on Harper’s groundout to second. Jim Murphy’s sacrifice fly scored Machado for a 2-0 lead.
Two-run home runs by Adam Duvall and Cory Vaughn helped the South take a 5-2 lead with a five-run third inning. Duvall’s RBI single made it 6-2 an inning later.
The North cut the lead to 6-3 in the seventh on Christian Villanueva’s RBI single.
Suns manager Brian Daubach managed the North, assisted by pitching coach Chris Michalak.
