Writing courses to be offered July 16

Washington County Free Library will host a free writer's workshop at Williamsport Memorial Branch Library, at 104 E. Potomac St., Williamsport, on Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

The workshop, titled "How to Write Your First Book and Get It Published,"  will be led by  author/publisher Lauren Carr. Workshop participants are invited to bring a brown-bag lunch. Dessert and beverages will be provided.

Seating is limited and registration is required.

The workshop will focus on several topics of interest to beginning authors including:

  • Making time for writing — don't quit your day job yet.
  • Developing style/finding your voice
  • Research: fact in fiction
  • Libel
  • Why you are your own worst editor
  • Book length:  are we done yet?
  • The publishing business
  • Terms and their meaning
  • Independent versus traditional: what's best for me?
