Morning crash on eastbound I-70 causes backups

  • A three-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 at the Sharpsburg Pike (Md. 65) exit closed eastbound lanes of the highway and caused traffic to back up.

HAGERSTOWN — Traffic on eastbound Interstate 70 was backed up at the Sharpsburg Pike exit (Exit 29/Md. 65) for about an hour Monday morning after a car collided with two other vehicles while merging onto the interstate, Trooper Bowers of the Maryland State Police said.

Nobody was injured.

A supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said authorities were notified of the incident around 6:35.

In addition to the Maryland State Police, a firetruck from the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company was also on the scene.

All three cars were towed away. The scene was cleared at 7:30 a.m.
