William “Bill” Ralph Price, 75, of Hagerstown, Md., died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at his home in Hagerstown.  

Born July 21, 1935, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Benjamin Wade and Viola Pearl (Hoffmaster) Price.

He was the husband of 54 years to Jean Lorraine (Poffenberger) Price of Hagerstown.

William graduated from Hagerstown High School, class of 1953, and obtained an associate degree from Hagerstown Junior College in 1955.

He was in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He also obtained a bachelor’s degree in education during that time from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va. William later obtained a master’s degree from Shippensburg College in 1968.

William retired in 1994 from Washington County Public Schools, where he served as an elementary school principal for many years.

His memberships include the Literacy Council of Washington County, the Retired School Personnel of Washington County, the Maryland State Employees Association and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.

He was a past member of Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378, Hagerstown, and was a volunteer for the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, where he was also the past committee chairman for Troop 10 of the Boy Scouts of America.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by a son, James K. and wife, Jill D. Price, of Hebron, Md.; three daughters, Karen P. and husband, Ronald L. Davis, of Parsonsburg, Md., Krista L. and husband, Joel D. Repp, of Clear Spring, Md., and Heidi J. and husband, Richard L. Harshman, of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert W. and wife, Renee Price, of Williamsburg, Va.; and 13 grandchildren.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, with his pastor, the Rev. Eric A. Norgard, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21732.

The Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Bryan K. Kenworthy P.A., 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
