Md. woman dies in accident along Md. 194

FREDERICK, Md. — A Taneytown, Md., woman died following a head-on car collision along Md. 194 at Legore Road Sunday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police.

Nellie R. Baumgardner, 86, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital following the 4:38 p.m. crash, state police said.

Baumgardner died after a 2003 Ford Focus being driven by Susan Baumgardner of Taneytown crossed a yellow double line and struck a Toyota Corolla being driven by Katlyn Appler of Hanover, Pa., state police said.

Susan Baumgardner was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious injuries, state police said.

Appler was taken to Meritus Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, state police said.

It is unknown if Nellie Baumgardner died as a result of injuries in the crash or from a medical condition before the crash, state police said.
