Robert Lee Hovermale Jr., 61, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, in Cumberland, Md., of natural causes.

Born March 1, 1950, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Robert Lee Hovermale Sr. of Hagerstown and the late Merilyn Adeline Hovermale.

He retired from Mack Trucks.

Robert served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant, and served in the Vietnam War.

As a child, he was a Boy Scout at First Christian Church on Potomac Avenue in Hagerstown. While in Scouts, he achieved the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout and the honor of God and Country.

Robert was a very free-spirited person and loved to camp, hike, swim, mushroom hunt and caving.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Cox of Waynesboro, Pa., Sharon Judd of Hagerstown and Saundra Cline of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Breana Nicole Boarman, Corey Judd, Dustin Judd and Riley Cline; and four sisters, Lois LaPole, Jennifer Hovermale, Sherry Cunningham and Andrea Melvin.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
