U.S. 340 bridge over the Potomac River near Harpers Ferry has been reopened following a three-car accident that occurred at about 9:15 a.m.

Trooper Hite of the Maryland State Police said one person involved in the crash was taken to Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.

Hite said slow traffic on the bridge caused the chain-reaction collision.

Two firetrucks and a support vehicle from Potomac Valley Fire Department and a Brunswick Community Rescue Service ambulance were on the scene at 10 a.m. The State Highway Administration and Maryland State Police also were on the scene.
