Mail Call - June 17

June 16, 2011

“Regarding the recycling/garbage bin that’s behind the fire hall, and everybody has to come to our small town and dump off their stuff, I think that the residents of Funkstown should have it removed, and back into Hagerstown, and let’s keep people out of Funks-town. Our roads are torn up, we don’t have the money to fix them, and Funkstown residents do pay county taxes, so yes, we are paying for the bin.”
— Funkstown

“I think that instead of issuing these restraining warrants against people who threaten somebody, they should issue a peace bond, where if that person comes one step near them, they can shoot them and kill them, to protect themselves. This should be passed. This should be the law. Also, when I called in about the expense accounts, you didn’t put in there exactly what I said. You didn’t put in there how much they made. You just said they get an account. Come on, break it down.”
— Hagerstown

“I go to the landfill about every two weeks. I have a permit. Last week, I took — for example — two bags of lawn refuse, one bag of paper products, some cardboard boxes, one bag of commingled items and one bag of trash. Then I read the new rules about going over ... next round, we’ll skip the lawn refuse recycling, drop off the paper, cardboard and commingled at their appropriate place, and put three bags in the trash bin.”
— Hagerstown

“This is on Social Security disability. My wife owns a business, and in the years she’s in business, I know several people who are now on Social Security disability, and they even had a job. Now I know a 25-year-old — these 20-year-old kids getting on Social Security disability because they don’t want to work, it seems like they can find a job someplace ... the government needs to check in on this Social Security disability and these young — younger generation getting this Social Security disability.”
— Hagerstown

“Could anyone tell me who you can call to get a yard cleaned up, when — who can you call when a neighbor has a mattress in their front yard, lawn mower in their front yard, tires in their front yard, bicycles, picnic tables. Who can you contact to get this taken care of?”
— Hagerstown

“I was calling for the caller from Boonsboro who called in about mo-peds. They said normally the reason for somebody riding mo-peds or bicycles was because they have DWI convictions. This is not true. The people on the country roads in our area that ride mo-peds don’t drink, and haven’t had driving violations on their license in their lifetime. This is their way of relaxing after working all day.”
