'Claws use doubles to hold off Suns

June 14, 2011

LAKEWOOD, N.J. — The Lakewood BlueClaws ordered a round of doubles on Monday to turn back the Hagerstown Suns.

Lakewood used three doubles to produce its first two runs and held on for a 3-1 victory that dented Hagerstown’s drive to win

the first-half title in the South Atlantic League Northern Division.
The loss, coupled with Greensboro’s 5-0 win over West Virginia, cuts Hagerstown’s lead to one game.

Lakewood took a 1-0 lead over Suns starter Taylor Jordan (6-3)  in the third inning on doubles by Alan Schoenberger and Zach Collier.

The BlueClaws took a 3-0 lead in the fifth when Collier was hit by a pitch and scored on Jim Murphy’s double. Murphy scored on a wild pitch.

The Suns (37-26) got their run in the eighth off reliever Tyler Knigge as Blake Kelso and David Freitas each singled, advanced on Jason Martinson’s bunt. Kelso scored on Kevin Keyes’ sacrifice fly.
