Lancelot J. “Smokey” Baker, 81, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, June 13, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Nov. 11, 1929, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Andrew and Goldie Baker.

He was employed by Frick Co., retiring after 44 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Paramount Brethren in Christ Church.

He was a member of Williamsport American Legion Post 202.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Shirley Baker; one daughter, Sheila Payton of Hagerstown; one son, Virgil Burkett of Sunnyvale, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Henson; and one brother, Andrew Baker.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. James R. Stauffer will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, Md. Graveside military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Paramount Brethren in Christ, 19106 Longmeadow Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
