A Smithsburg man was being held Tuesday in the Washington County Detention Center on $950,000 bond after charges were filed last week accusing him of sexually molesting a 4-year-old girl.
Jerry Lee Stone Jr., 38, of Brown Road, is charged with second- and third-degree sex offenses, sex abuse of a minor, perverted practices and second-degree assault, according to Washington County District Court records. Maryland State Police filed the charges Friday.
A relative of the victim took the child to the state police barracks June 7 and accused Stone of molesting the girl, according to the application for statement of charges. The relative told police the incident occurred the night of May 19-20 while the child was staying at Stone’s home, the document said.
The child told the relative on the morning of May 20 that Stone had molested her, the charging document said.
The child was interviewed June 7 at the Child Advocacy Center in Hagerstown, the charging document said. The girl told a caseworker that she was asleep when Stone fondled her and performed oral sex.
Stone was interviewed by state police June 8, and police allege he admitted to touching the child, but remembered little because he had been using marijuana, alcohol and painkillers that night, the charging document said.
Stone, who was in district court Monday for a bond hearing, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 5, according to court records.
